So this book is actually a diary. Its about a 15 year old drug user. She is not into drugs in the beginning, but she moves away from her hometown. She starts to feel depressed and is a social outcast at her new school. So she goes back to visit her grandparent back in her old town. Thats when the drug abuse starts. She gets invited to a party where she experiences her first high ever...on acid. She gets introduced to weed, speed, and pills.
Brenda,
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing picture that you have posted on your blog! Do you have the link to the picture, I can definitely use it in future classes.
Do you think that Alice would've turned to drugs even if she hadn't gone back to visit her grandparents? Why or why not? You're doing a great job so far.

This book sounds very interesting. It is hard for a person to move from a place they are use to,to a place where they know no one. I find it kind of dumb of her to be using drugs just because she is the "outcast". Many people start that way, by getting pressured or teased because they aren't "cool" enough to do it, and once they do it they become hooked and can't stop. This has me wondering now...jaja to find out what happens with her.
ReplyDeleteDoes Alice ever stop using?
or
do her parents or anyone close to her find out?
I think that she still would have used drugs even if she didn't go visit her grandparents. Because her new school is divided into 2 groups the straight kids and the dopers.
ReplyDeletejanet- yeah I know what yu mean by kids trying to be "cool". Dont worry Im going to keep posting so you can find out what happens to her I just cant give it away!
Brenda--
ReplyDeleteI read this book a long time ago and it's very sad. If I remember right there are a few pages that are hard to read because she's having bad days and/or months. Did her family try to help her? Or did they even know what was going on with her?
At first they didnt know what was going on but eventually they caught on they tried giving her as much support as possible. Yeah I agree this book is really sad. Its an eye opener.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds very interesting. I can definitely tell that the move had everything to do with her behavior considering she had never done anything like that before. Sounds like she wanted a place to fit in, even if it was the worst spot for her.
